About

Laura McPherson (she/they) has worked full-time as a writer and editor since 2011. Her experience, variously and non-chronologically, includes: managing arts and crafts stores; managing a compliance team in real estate finance; working in call centers for Honey Baked Ham, the Illinois Department of Corrections, and others; and driving semi-trucks.

Laura’s creative writing has appeared in such publications as Night Picnic, Cosmic Horror Monthly, Downstate Story, The Deadlands, and Paperbark. Her flash fiction “Memento Mori” was a Semi-Finalist in the 2020 American Short(er) Fiction Contest. She presented her original paper “A Postcritical Reading of Mathematics as the Organizing Principle in Thomas Pynchon’s Against the Day” at the 2022 International Pynchon Week conference at the University of British Columbia.

Laura’s nonfiction writing has appeared in publications including BusinessWeek, PR Newswire, Zerys, and Seeking Alpha. She has ghostwritten articles and presentations for clients working in diverse spaces and companies including Microsoft, Salesforce, and United Airlines. In this context, she was one degree of separation from Steve Jobs. She suspects she is still six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon due to his lack of interest in her screenplay.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Career and Technical Education and History from Eastern New Mexico University, a post-baccalaureate Certificate in Writing from the University of California-Berkeley, and a post-baccalaureate Certificate in Conversational French from the University of Toronto. She also holds a five-year substitute teaching license and a CDL-A.
